Helping young Eastleigh women see what’s possible
More than 80 girls and young women recently came together for All About Her, an initiative supported by Wates Residential, Eastleigh Borough Council and local partners to encourage greater participation in sport and inspire confidence in future opportunities.
From gym activities to skateboarding workshops, team games and experiences, the day was designed to help participants try something new and discover activities they may not have considered before.
The event was developed in response to a challenge seen across many sports, where participation among girls often drops at a young age. By creating a welcoming environment to explore new interests and build confidence, All About Her aimed to encourage more young women to stay engaged and see the opportunities available to them.
That ambition resonates beyond sport.
In both sport and construction, visibility matters. When girls and young women can see opportunities, they’re more likely to imagine a place for themselves in them.
As part of the event, our team introduced attendees to construction as a career path, sharing more about the range of roles available across the industry and helping demonstrate that construction is a place where everyone can thrive.
The event forms part of our wider partnership with Eastleigh Borough Council at One Horton Heath, where we’re delivering the first residential phase of the development. Lower Acre will provide 381 mixed-tenure homes and marks the beginning of a new community that will eventually deliver up to 2,500 homes, alongside new infrastructure, green spaces and community facilities.
