Channel View showcased as a leading example of regeneration in Wales

Hosted by Constructing Excellence in Wales in partnership with Wates Residential and Cardiff Council, the event formed part of the relaunch of the South East Wales Best Practice Club, bringing attendees together to share ideas and explore best practice in regeneration and placemaking.
Guests heard how our partnership with the council is delivering lasting change at Channel View, with discussions covering community engagement, social value, sustainability and building safety. Attendees also toured the live construction site to see progress on Phase 1, which is delivering 126 council homes for residents aged over 50across two landmark buildings.
Once complete, the wider regeneration programme will replace 180 ageing properties with 354 highly energy-efficient mixed-tenure homes, alongside improved public spaces and stronger community connections.
The visit came at an exciting time for the project following planning approval earlier this year for the next stages of the regeneration. The approval unlocks the delivery of a further 228 homes across six phases, including 189 affordable homes for Council tenants, a new neighbourhood retail unit and improvements to The Marl. Construction on phases two and three is expected to begin by Spring 2027, with Wates Residential continuing its role as a long-term partner on the programme.
As work continues, Channel View is entering an exciting new chapter. Together, were working with Cardiff Council to create a vibrant, connected neighbourhood that will provide high-quality homes, new green spaces and lasting benefits for current and future residents.
