Moulsecoomb regeneration begins to take shape with 222 new council homes

The scheme will deliver 222 new council homes alongside a new community hub and improved public spaces for Brighton & Hove City Council.
We welcomed Cllr Gill Williams, Brighton & Hove City Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and New Homes, and members of the council team to site to see the progress being made and meet some of the young people benefiting from work experience opportunities through the project.
The scheme will transform a prominent site in north Brighton, delivering eight residential buildings, eight family townhouses and three new streets: Flintfield Drive, Thorncroft Close and Chalkvale Mews.

Alongside much-needed council homes, the development will create a new community hub bringing together a GP surgery, pharmacy, library, youth facilities, adult learning provision and a community café. A new skate park, 3G football pitch and enhanced public spaces will also form part of the wider regeneration.
The first residential building is due to complete in March 2028, with the community hub opening in September 2028 and the wider project scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
The project is already making a positive impact in the local community. To date, 11 work experience placements have been delivered and 43 local roles created, while Wates has also worked alongside organisations including the 67 Centre to support wider community initiatives.

Construction activity continues across the site, with piling, groundworks and demolition works progressing as part of the wider regeneration programme. A key milestone has also been reached, with concrete frame works now underway on the first residential block.
Designed with local people and future residents in mind, the scheme has been shaped through extensive community engagement, with more than 200 residents helping to inform the plans.
